Who Am I?
My name is Connie M. Viamonte and I am a student at Florida International University. I am currently working on a doctoral degree in Comparative Sociology. I am 26 years old and have lived in Miami, Florida practically all my life. Despite my hermit-like customs, I am surprisingly social and enjoy spending time with friends and loved ones. In addition to my dissertation research, I enjoy several hobbies (one of which is webdesign). I am currently teaching English 1101 at F.I.U.
What is this?
This website began as a personal site of my musings and designs, but it is now solely dedicated to my research. I hope to establish a record here of my work on my dissertation. I am currently studying the massively multi-player on-line game, World of Warcraft (in case the layout wasn't a dead giveaway). The focus of my study concerns how people meet and form relationships through the game. Currently, I am working on an article with a professor of mine that studies the parts of the game in relation to the parts of a society. In other words, can the in-game community be considered a society by sociological standards? As I go through my research, I want to document my findings on this site. I also want others to be aware of this research and how important it is to contemporary society. We are living in a world where the technology changes faster than the time of day. In order to understand this new world we are creating (or destroying), we have to understand our creations.
